Muscles need a fixed point to contract from & move the body. The way we use our body is crucial to activate proper muscle function, support, stability & mobility.
External supports are valuable to provide a fixed point to help mobility. Any support is a help for the body but should not totally support which takes the function away from the body. Any form of support should be thought of as a help & assistment for the body to develop strategy to control the movement.
Some practical examples are, turning in bed requiring a fixed anchor point for the muscles to turn the body. Also, the technique of use of a support stick to help the body rather than total reliance which will take the function from the body ( Each situation is different & individual).
